This Norfolk and Western caboose and the whistle post in foreground are located at the
Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum in Suffolk Virginia. The caboose was built in July 1962 and first saw service with the Nickle Plate RR before moving to the N&W. It was retired 1981 and has been at the Suffolk Museum since 2000. Whistle posts mark the spot where the locomotive engineer is required to sound the whistle, usually one-quarter mile before a road crossing.
