- Guarding the main entrance at
Biltmore House near Ashville North Carolina are two massive carved stone lions that survey visitors with magnificently serene countenances. Carved of Rosso di Verona marble that is from near San Ambrogio Valpolicello in Italy, these lions are believed to date to the late nineteenth century and were not put in place until late 1899 or early 1900. Canon G10, 1/1000 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 80, converted to black and white.
