Groucho Glasses

From 2010 Blog
- My grandson Robert in his Groucho Glasses. He spent the night with us last night and this morning I had the pleasure of introducing him to one of finer things in life, we watched the Three Stooges in "Gents in a Jam" together. We both laughed out loud the whole time. That physical comedy still appeals to grown kids like me as well as the younger generation. Canon 7D 1/30 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800.

Lashes

From 2010 Blog
- My grandson Robert has some long eye lashes. We were at Sandbridge Beach after work today and he and I got dunked by wave. With his eye lashes still wet, I took this closeup while he watches the water. Canon 7D, 1/1000 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 400, 100mm.

Hosta

From 2010 Blog
- One of my hostas backlit by the micro LED Litepanel. Since we have a very shady yard, I have many hostas most of which are showing stress from the recent heat wave and drought. Unfortunately some of the hostas are just done for this year. Canon 40D, f/20.0 @ 1/250 sec, ISO 400, 50mm macro.

Bumblebee Moth

From 2010 Blog
- The Bumblebee Moth, more properly known as the Snowberry Clearwing (Hemaris diffinis),has found a good source of nectar from the Million Bells in Susan and Duane's backyard. We enjoyed sitting out in their great backyard this evening watching the moths work the flowers and the hummingbirds visiting the feeders. Canon G11, 1/200 @ f/4.5, ISO 400 in macro mode.

Love Chrome

From 2010 Blog
- The chrome front bumper of a 55 Chevy reflects the 57 Eldorado Seville parked next to it. Fins and chrome and lots of it were the style trademarks of the mid 1950's Detroit automobiles. The massive chrome bumpers were gone forever in the mid 1970's after the U.S. 5-mph bumper standard took effect. Canon 7D, 1/400 sec @ f/11.0, ISO 200, 100mm focal length.

Moth Under Glass

From 2010 Blog
- I guess the title of this post would be more accurate as "Moth on Glass." This little moth was on my side storm door so I took the opportunity to make her portrait. She's only about half an inch long. Canon 7D, 1/320 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 800, 100mm macro, lighting from the porch light and a Micro LED Litepanel.

Elise

From 2010 Blog
- The Lotus Elise is a fiberglass body and aluminum chassis true roadster sports car. It's mid-engine power and read wheel drive make for an amazing handling car that can reach speeds of 150 MPH. The is a true sports car driver's automobile as the design aims to reduce weight, so there's not much in the amenities department. It's purpose is only to take two people and move them very fast. Canon Rebel XTi, 1/400 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 100, Lensbaby Composer with super wide angle adapter.

County Court

From 2010 Blog
- Many of Virginia's counties have 300+ year histories and Northampton County on Virginia's Eastern Shore is one of the oldest. The building in the foreground is the 1731 Courthouse while the building in the background is the 18th century Clerk's Office once home to the oldest continuous county court records in the country which have been maintained since 1632. The entire courthouse green complex is one of the best preserved in Virginia and so ends today's Virginia history lesson. Canon G11, 1/640 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Caterpillar Rain

From 2010 Blog
- We had a nice short little rain shower this evening but it was probably not enough to make much difference in our dry summer. But this little caterpillar was oblivious to rain while he was munching away on my rosemary. Canon 7D, 1/125 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 1600, 100mm macro.

Yuk-Yuk & Joe's

From 2010 Blog
We drove over to Eastville a small town on Virginia's Eastern Shore today. We saw this little place - Yuk-Yuk & Joe's Restaurant and Bar just outside of town. Typical of Virginia's rural Eastern Shore with it's tin roof, clapboard siding, oyster shell parking lot and the ever present American Flag. It was pretty empty early on a Sunday afternoon, may be it rocks on Saturday nights. Canon G11, 1/320 sec @ f.8.0, ISO 100. The sepia tone is in honor of my fellow photographer and blogger, Cait Wade and the revival of her Sepia Sunday feature.

Mustang!

From 2010 Blog
- I went to a car show this afternoon at the Fairfield Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. They had a real nice collection of hot rods, restored 50's, 60's and 70's muscle cars but it is the Ford Mustangs that I gravitate to. My very first new car was a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach I, 351 Cleveland V-8, dark green metallic with saddle tan interior. I bought it at the end of the model year when the new smaller Mustang II's (yuk) were just coming out. Got a great deal and never regretted buying a gas gussler during the 1973 oil crisis. This front grill emblem was on a slick 2005 dark gray Mustang GT. Canon G11, 1/500 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 200.

21 Bucket T

From 2010 Blog
A 1921 model "Bucket T" hot rod waiting to join the neighborhood Independence Day parade. Bucket T's generally feature an enormous engine for the size and weight of the car, generally a V8 of some form, along with tough drive trains to handle the power and large rear tires to apply that power to the road. The front wheels, in a nod to the Model T's drag racing past, are often much smaller than the rear wheels. Canon 7D, 1/100 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200, zoom at 93mm focal length.

Long Creek

From 2010 Blog
Long Creek in Virginia Beach looking west towards the Lynnhaven River about 45 minutes past sunset and during a light shower of rain. I like the purple sky that occurs after sunset. This would have been a much better photo 15 minutes earlier. The evening light changes rapidly, so it's always worth hanging around after the sun sets. Canon G11, 1 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400, camera resting on a dock box.

Tangled Web

From 2010 Blog
Oh what a tangled web she weaves! Saw this large tangled web during my evening walk through the nature trail yesterday. This is only about a third of the total web. A beam of late day sun really lights it up nicely. Never did see the spider though. Canon 7D,1/50 sec @ f/7.1, ISO 400, 100mm focal length.

High Power Lookout

From 2010 Blog
- This osprey has massive nest built atop a power line tower at the entrance of the Elizabeth River Natural Area and Canoe Launch in the Carolanne Farms neighborhood in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I was pretty far away using a 400mm lens with a 1.4x teleconvertor lens and tripod to capture the early evening image. As I moved a little closer, the osprey took off and made a big circle above me before returning to the nest. I guess he wanted a closer look at that crazy photographer. Canon 7D, 1/250 sec @ f/11.0, ISO 400, focal length 560mm.

Happy 400th!

From 2010 Blog
- Happy 400th Anniversary to the City of Hampton Virginia. Founded on July 9, 1610 - yes that's right 16-10, 10 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. This is a picture inside of the fourth St. John's Parrish Church built in 1728. The town was originally called Kecoughtan after the Native American community located on the same site, it was later renamed to Elizabeth City, then Southampton and finally Hampton. Here's Looking at You

From 2010 Blog
- My grandson Robert was sick today with an ear infection. But he went to the doctor and after his first dose of medicine kicked in, he was good as new for about an hour. During that time we played and I took this picture of him looking at me. He is holding the cat training aide (a.k.a. squirt bottle) which he loves to use much to Sasha's regret. Canon 7D, 1/320 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 1600, natural light.

$1

From 2010 Blog
- No it's not the Northern Lights but a simple light painting completed with $1's worth of thin chemical bracelet lights from Target. We always check out those dollar bins just inside the door at Target stores. Sometimes we find cool bargains like these lights, other times not much of interest. Canon Rebel XTi, 2 seconds @ f/5.6, ISO 200, 50mm lens mounted on a tripod.

Orange

From 2010 Blog
The Alabama Jubilee daylily puts on quite a show with its big deep orange blooms. I just wish they lasted more than a day. There is just one more bud left to go before waiting another elevens months for the next show. The wait just makes you appreciate them even more. Canon 7D, 1/4000 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400, 100mm macro.
