- Many of Virginia's counties have 300+ year histories and Northampton County on Virginia's Eastern Shore is one of the oldest. The building in the foreground is the 1731 Courthouse while the building in the background is the 18th century Clerk's Office once home to the oldest continuous county court records in the country which have been maintained since 1632.
