20 - Day 141 of 365 #CY365
Zooming in on the "20" in the lower right corner of the 2003 redesigned U.S. twenty dollar currency note. Canon 7D, 1/400 sec @ f/11.0, ISO 400 65mm MPE macro lens at 1:1.

Automatic - Day 128 #CY365
Trust in your skills, learn to not rely on the "automatic" mode of your camera. Canon 5D Mark II, 1/320 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 800.

Barbed - Day 112 #CY365
A little "razor wire" brings a whole new meaning to barbed. I can see where it gets the moniker, "the mean stuff". Canon 7D, 1/800 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Siesta - Day 105 #CY365
No opportunity for a siesta or a siesta photo today, so I pulled out an appropriate one from a trip to La Jolla Cove last year. This pelican was clearly enjoying the midday sun and an opportunity for a siesta. Canon 7D, 1/1250 sec @ f/10, ISO 200 telephoto zoom at 340mm. Just so you don't think I'm a 365 slacker, here's today's rainy day photo.

Cheers - Day 75 #CY365
Resurrecting a photo idea from 2009 for today's prompt of "Cheers". Playing off the diagonal. Can you guess how it's done? Canon 7D, 1/250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 100.

Muse - Day 65 #CY365
I had to find my muse on the Capture Your 365 project gallery today. It was easy because I have been admiring the work of contributor Pam Scott since joining the project in January. She has a great closeup eye for photos. I choose her Day 49 "In the Front Yard" photo of a pink camellia as my inspiration. Here's my pink camellia completely desaturated and presented in black and white. I was looking to capture the same texture and feel as Pam did but with my own view. Canon 7D, 1/125 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 400, converted to black and white using Silver Efex Pro.

Predictable - Day 55 #CY365
They don't make pencils like the they used to, or maybe they do. Canon 7D, 1/200 sec @ f/13.0, ISO 1600, 100mm macro lens.

Geared Up - Day 46 #CY365
Day 46 - Geared Up. This large bevel gear is most likely from a Voith gearbox or wheel set for a transit bus. It is about eight inches and diameter and weighs about 24 pounds with the attached bearing assembly. It makes an excellent door stop. Canon 7D, 1/125 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 800, 100mm macro lens.

Conversation - Day 44 #CY365
Used some of my vast PEZ collection for today's photo. The PEZ Valentine's Day dispensers mimic the popular conversation candy hearts. I really struggled with this topic today. Not that happy with the results. Canon 7D, 1/15 sec @ f/18, ISO 800, 100mm macro lens.

Old School - Day 38 #CY365
Old School - This is my Sterling model No. 594 Decimal Trig Multi-Log slide rule ©1965. I acquired this slide rule in 1972 from the Tidewater Community College bookstore at the old Camp Pendleton Virginia Beach Campus. I still have the original 10 inch long belt holster - a symbol of geek cool. This pretty much makes it "old school" and believe it or not I still know how to use it. The slide rule would be obsolete within 5 years, replaced by cheap electronic calculators. Today these elegant mechanical analog computers are relegated to collector's items. Canon 7D, 1/200 sec @ f/18, ISO 800, 100mm macro lens.

From The Top - Day 36 #CY365
From the Top, a compact fluorescent light bulb. The delicate swirls remind me of a soft serve ice cream cone. Canon 7D, 1/400 sec @ f/20, ISO 100, 100mm macro lens, converted to black and white.

In The Dark - Day 32 #CY365
Today was a self portrait challenge. Like most photographers I'm much more comfortable behind the camera rather than in front of it. With the daily inspiration as "In The Dark", I opted for a selfie of my hand holding a glass as it fills with water. The camera's self timer was set on 10 seconds. Canon 7D,1/40 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 1600 in manual exposure and focus mode.

A Horse - Day 31 #CY365
Today's challenge was "A Horse". Not having ready access to a real horse I went to the next best thing - Gumby's best pal - Pokey. This is one still-frame picture but it takes 1,440 still frame pictures to make one minute of Gumby and Pokey animation. That's almost four years at the picture a day pace of the 365 project. Canon 7D, 1/500 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 1600.

RJ-45 - Day 28 #CY365
A super close-up of the lifeblood RJ-45 network connector for most of our computers. Without the wired ethernet network there would be no Internet, no WiFi and probably no Google, Amazon, Facebook, . . . you get the picture. Technically RJ-45 is short for Registered Jack-45, an eight-wire connector used commonly to connect computers onto a local-area network. I personally think it an object of beautiful functionality.
Canon 7D, 1/160 sec @ f/11.0, ISO 1600, 100mm macro lens captured at 1:1 or life size on the camera's image sensor.

Norfolk @ Night
Continuing with my Norfolk at Night theme the dome of the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial is decorated with holiday lights and framed by the City's modern skyline. Built in 1850 this Classical Revival structure is the work of Norfolk architect William Singleton consulting with Thomas U. Walter, famed architect of the central dome of the U.S. Capitol building. Canon 7D, 1/3 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.
