127 - Welding

Workers welding on a 24 inch gas main being installed under Armistead Ave in Norfolk, Virginia. Known as HRX (Hampton Roads Crossing it is a 123 million dollar project. They are using a technique called horizontal directional drilling to install the line 26 feet below the street along three blocks with only a small pit at each end. Canon G10, 1/250 sec at f/4.0, ISO 200, 44mm equivalent focal length.

126 - Daisy

This daisy was backlit with a an LED Micro Litepanel with front lighting provided by an LED flashlight. My earliest daily post was taken with a Canon G10, 1/220 sec at f/4.0, ISO 200, 11mm equivalent focal length in macro focus mode.

125 - Super Heroes

Super Hero PEZ dispensers stand watch over me. The new X-Men Origins Wolverine movie inspired today's photo. The Super Heroes are front and center in my collection of PEZ dispensers. Only other PEZHeads can truly appreciate. Canon G10, 1/125 sec at f/3.5, ISO 400 in macro focus mode.

124 - Eye to Eye

One digital eye looks deeply into another and finds nothing. This dark soulless eye belongs to a video conference camera. Canon G10, 1/6 sec at f/3.2, ISO 800, 18mm equivalent focal length. Image stabilization and macro focus mode made this image possible, of course the steady hands of the skillful photographer player a role too.

123 - Tweet Up

Took part in the Hampton Roads Tweetup Photowalk in Olde Town Portsmouth Virginia today. Follow @HRVAphotowalk on Twitter for updates. We got thoroughly wet by a sudden rain shower but the puddle produced today's photo. Canon 40D, 1/320 sec at f/7.1, ISO 200, 55mm focal length.

122 - First Order

This first-order Fresnel Lens is at High Street Landing in Portsmouth Virginia. It began service in 1896 as part of the Hog Island Light off the Great Machipongo Inlet on Virginia's Eastern Shore. This type of lens was invented in 1822 by French physicist Augustin Fresnel. Rather than merely reflecting light, it used hundreds of prisms to bend and concentrate the light in a powerful beam.

121 - Azalea Festival

This week is Norfolk's 56th International Azalea Festival. The azalea's this year are just magnificent. A cooler than normal spring has produced the best blooms we've seen in years. This shot is one of the large bushes in my backyard. Canon 40D, 1/800 sec at f/4.0, ISO 200 with the Lensbaby Composer.
