141 - Decay

From 365 Project
I like taking pictures of older things that have been left to decay by the society they once served. This is part of an old chimney on a warehouse adjacent to the Lambert's Point RR tracks on Princess Anne Road in Norfolk, Virginia. The bricks are lose and falling away, the iron bands placed years ago to add life are failing and the vines are working slowly on nature's reclamation. It's only a matter of time. Canon 40D, 173mm, 1/100 sec @ f/18.0, ISO 100.

139 - Judy Lane

From 365 Project
The Judy Lane at the Hampton harbor in Hampton Virginia. While the harbor now houses many large yachts, sailboats and sport fisherman, it is still home to many of the boats of working waterman. The Judy Lane is a Chesapeake deadrise workboat, for over 100 years the craft of choice for local waterman tonging for oysters, pulling in crab pots or fishing nets. While the mountain of oyster shells that once marked Hampton's waterfront is gone, commercial fishing struggles to stay alive. Canon 40D, 1/125 sec at f/18.0, ISO 100, 70mm.

138 - Whisps

From 365 Project
Thin whisps of clouds appeared as a cold front moved two days of rain out of the area. Soon the heat and humidity of a mid-Atlantic coast summer will make blue skies and thin whispy clouds a rarity. Canon 40D, 1/400 sec at f/22, ISO 100, 70mm focal length.

137 - Marketing 495

From 365 Project
Personalizing your graduation cap is a tradition for many college graduates. At CNU's graduation today, there were many clever messages but this one captured what's on the minds of many graduates in this tough economy. I bet she's a marketing major. Canon 40D, 1/15 sec at f/5.6, ISO 1600, 400mm focal length. Hand held with the help of image stabilization.

136 - Tribles

From 365 Project
Early evening outside the Paul and Rosemary Trible Library on the campus of Christoper Newport University in Newport News Virginia. Our son Michael graduates from CNU tomorrow and the Candlelight Ceremony was held tonight. Former U.S. Senator from Virginia Paul S. Trible, Jr. has been the President of CNU since 1996 and has transformed the university. The new library was dedicated last year to honor President Trible and his wife Rosemary for their leadership at this up and coming public liberal arts college. Canon G10, 1/13 sec at f/3.5, ISO 400.

135 - Ice, Ice Baby!

From 365 Project
No it's not diamonds, it's really ice, you know the cold stuff. We were visiting a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian home recently and they had an 1940's refrigerator with the old aluminum style ice trays. The docent told us kids have no concept of making ice in ice trays. One even asked what the recipe for ice was. So the ice machines have it. Canon G10, 1/60 sec at f/6.3, ISO 400, contrast highly exaggerated.
