Valediction

From 2010 Blog
- How our office vending machine thanks you for spending your dollar. The inflection is a little cold and mechanical, kind of like you get from those scripted service employees at national franchises. I have a good friend who always replies "Don't tell me what to do!" Apparently this is a U.S. custom as Europeans feel the phrase is fake and that the speaker only wants to sell something to them - duh. Canon 7D, 1/100 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800, 100mm macro.

Lovely Gardenia

From 2010 Blog
- The lovely gardenias have busted out in bloom. I have a couple of varieties but this is from the oldest and largest of my plants. The bush is about 8 feet high and six feet in diameter. Hundreds of blooms have literally transformed the backyard with the most amazing aroma. The delicate white flowers against the shiny deep green foliage make for great photos. I hope you enjoy the image and wish I could bring you the smell. Canon 40D, 1/125 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 400, 50mm lens.

West 4th Street

From 2010 Blog
- During our trip to New York City back in April we spent a day in Greenwich Village. Near the end of the day we turned and walked down West 4th Street with it's block of famous "sex shops". This is the Pink Pussy Cat Boutique with a bicycle chained to the "No Standing Anytime" sign post. While you can't stand in front of a famous tourist attraction, apparently bicycle bondage is allowed. Only in NYC. Canon 7D, 1/320 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 800.

Remembrance

From 2010 Blog
- Took this picture of Old Glory for Memorial Day. Just remembering my father, Edward H. Sullivan. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving in France and Germany with the Eight Infantry Division in WWII and during the Korean Conflict with the 25th Infantry Division. He was twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor and the Combat Infantry Badge and also the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters. Canon 7D, 1/200 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 200.

Cat's Eye

From 2010 Blog
- Our cat Sasha was between the blinds and the window today when I noticed her carefully watching me. The camera caught her gaze with the blinds reflected in her right eye. Cat's have outstanding vision and see just as well as we can with only 1/6th the amount of light. Canon 40D, 1/100 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 400, 50mm macro.

Touch Tone

From 2010 Blog
The "Touch Tone" telephone was standardized when the dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) system in the new push-button telephone was introduced in the 1960s, and replaced the rotary dial. When used to dial a telephone number, pressing a single key will produce a pitch consisting of two simultaneous pure tone sinusoidal frequencies. The row in which the key appears determines the low frequency, and the column determines the high frequency - hence the name dual tone mutli-frequency.
