31 - Little Red Caboose

This Norfolk and Western caboose and the whistle post in foreground are located at the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum in Suffolk Virginia. The caboose was built in July 1962 and first saw service with the Nickle Plate RR before moving to the N&W. It was retired 1981 and has been at the Suffolk Museum since 2000. Whistle posts mark the spot where the locomotive engineer is required to sound the whistle, usually one-quarter mile before a road crossing. Taken with a Canon 40D, f/11, 1/20s, ISO 200, 31mm focal length.

Canon G10 meets the Kodak Retina I. The Retina I was a German built camera introduced in 1936. The Retina line is noted as the first camera to use the modern 135 film cartridge, still the format used in today's film SLR's. Thanks to my Aunt Shirley, this and many other old Kodaks, including the Brownie in the background, are part of my camera collection. Made with a Canon G10, macro mode, 1/8s, F/2.8, ISO 400, 30mm equivalent.

29 - Gabriel's Horn

Grabriel's Horn against a winter morning blue sky. This horn is the weather vane at the top the steeple of Freemason Street Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Thomas U. Walter, the architect for the U.S. Capital dome designed the revival-Gothic building, which is now on the National Historical Register. Captured with a Canon 40D, f/7.1, 1/160s, ISO 100, 70-200 zoom at 200mm.

28 - The Torch Bearers

The Torch Bearers is a cast aluminum sculpture by artist Anna Hyatt Huntington which sits just outside the main entrance of the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia. Huntington was the daughter-in-law of Collis P. Huntington, railroad magnate, founder of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company and early benefactor of Hampton Institute featured in yesterday's photo. Huntington's husband Archer established the Mariners' Museum Newport News, Virginia in 1930. Canon G10, f8.0, 1/60s, ISO 200, 149mm equivalent.

27 - Memorial Chapel

Memorial Chapel on the campus of Hampton University is one of six buildings in a National Historic Landmark district. This photo was made looking up at the chandelier in the center of the nave. Dedicated in 1886 it is an excellent example of Italian Romanesque architecture. Made with a Canon 40D, 8mm fisheye lens, 1/30s, f/7.1, ISO 800.

This 30 front neon sign is a beacon on E. Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk Virginia. It competes nicely with a store front full of chrome. Captured with the Canon G10, f/8.0, 5s, ISO 200.

25 - Hampton National

I take volunteer photo requests for FindaGrave.com. Near dusk I visited the Phoebus Section of the Hampton National Cemetery to take a photo for a request and then took this shot of some of the over 28,000 graves. The Phoebus Section contains the grave sites of 5 Medal of Honor recipients and 28 German sailors from the U-85 sunk off the North Carolina coast on April 15, 1942.
